Breakout Session: Nancy Evans Bush, MA
The Therapeutic Challenge of Distressing NDEs
Although as many as one in five near-death experiences reported over thirty years were perceived as disturbing, even cosmically terrifying, the literature of near-death studies contains almost no information about them. This presentation offers essential data about distressing NDEs and the people who report them. Therapists and spiritual directors, as well as experiencers, face substantial challenges when dealing with them and their enduring power. This session includes illustrations of the basic types of dNDE, common interpretations, and issues important to professional care givers.
Nancy Evans Bush, MA, was Executive Director and later President of the International Association for Near-Death Studies and a member of its Board of Directors for many years. A graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) – Albany, she holds a masters degree in Pastoral Ministry and Spirituality from St. Joseph University in Connecticut. The author of Dancing Past the Dark: Distressing Near-Death Experiences and host of the blog dancingpastthedark.com, she is considered the world expert on distressing NDEs.
