Additional Resources for STE Assistance
People who have STEs (spiritually transformative experiences) sometimes have difficulty finding mental health professionals who will help them sort out STEs from mental disorders — and cope with either or both. (If you have a life-threatening emergency please call 911 or go to an emergency room because safety comes first.)
If no one on our lists is nearby, here are suggestions for contacting sister organizations and for finding clinicians who may have such experience:
- Spiritual Emergency Network (SEN) (see the Getting Help menu)
- International Spiritual Emergence Network (ISEN)
- International Association for Near Death Studies (IANDS)
Or contact your county association of mental health practitioners and ask for a transpersonal therapist, a therapist who helps with spiritual or religious problems, or a therapist with Jungian training. These associations can be found with an internet search or your local telephone directory. National associations that may have a local chapter near you include the American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, and the National Association of Social Workers. For instance for the local chapter of psychologists, try searching as follows: (your county name) Psychological Association.
A website that lists contact information additional mental health professional organizations is www.counselor-license.com
There are also commercial websites that offer therapist listings, including:
- Psychcentral.com (see Find Help tab)
- GoodTherapy.org (see Find a Therapist link)
- Psychology Today (see Find a Therapist or Find a Psychiatrist link)
