As a licensed marriage and family therapist, my passion is to help people strengthen their connection to the life they desire, especially in the midst or following an STE. Sometimes having to keep secret powerful spiritual experiences can also get in the way of having this life. To do this, I collaborate with the client and bring as needed the various aspects of my and the client's life and training to support them in this endeavor. Therapy can give clients a chance to really feel validated and heard when they share experiences that they may not even have words for. So much of the time, people tell others about the experiences that they've had and people look at them sideways, like they've gone nuts. People don't understand how compelling their experience was. In contrast, when we work together people have the chance to process and make sense of what happened to them, and perhaps what still may be happening. These experiences may have after affects that the person doesn't know how to navigate. Together, we can explore how to traverse and adjust to their changed life. Working from a mind-body-spirit perspective, my idea of fun is to use a variety of eclectic approaches that will help the person get to where they want to be. These approaches include energy psychology, somatic (bodymind) approaches, mindfulness based approaches that create opportunities for enjoyment of life, depth psychology, and internal family systems therapy. My style is interactive and I am unabashedly warm.
I’ve had a lifelong interest and curiosity related to spirituality, and was very fortunate to grow up within a loving church community. Starting in my 20s, I experienced several life-changing spiritually transformative experiences, which continue to the present time. Given this foundation of interest, curiosity and experience, and my opportunity to integrate these experiences into my life with the wonderful help of fantastic teachers, my desire to support others on their journey has been consistent. In the midst of this, I’ve also listened to many experiences of people who’ve had STEs and did not experience the open-hearted reception they were hoping for from those close to them. This lifelong curiosity and questioning so many things spiritual, and desire to support others who’ve gone through these very compelling experiences, along with my desire to be connected to the Ground of my Being, I think really helps me to be present to myself and others, especially as we traverse the unpredictable nature of life following an STE.
My philosophy in working with clients who’ve experienced STEs is to give them a chance to really feel validated and heard when they share experiences that they may not even have words for. Usually, when people tell others about what they’ve gone through, they’re given a sideways look—as if they’ve gone bananas. Most people simply can’t understand how compelling these experiences are. My intention when working with you, as someone who’s had a transpersonal experience (or several), is to allow you to process and make sense of what happened—or what may still be happening. Whether you’re attempting to grow your spiritual abilities or navigate an STE, I promise to meet you with compassion and unconditional positive regard in a space free of judgment. Together, we’ll create a tailored approach to help you feel grounded, regulate emotions, navigate your new experience of life, and communicate in a kind, effective way — with yourself and others.
