Assisted After-death Communication: A Self-prescribed Treatment for Grief

Abstract

Many bereaved individuals are presently receiving readings from psychic mediums and though little is known about the effects of this self-prescribed treatment option, anecdotal reports and exploratory data suggest a positive outcome. This presentation aims to provide those who work with the bereaved basic information about the process of ‘real-life’ mediumship (not what is portrayed on TV) and suggestions for how clients can optimize readings with mediums. The relationships between grief and spontaneous, induced, and assisted after-death communication (ADC) experiences within a continuing bonds perspective will also be discussed. Finally, this session will include a final open dialogue with attendees during which the presenter hopes to acquire feedback regarding what types of information about assisted ADCs are most helpful for those working with the bereaved.

Presenter Bio

Julie Beischel, PhD, is the co-founder and Director of Research at the Windbridge Institute. Following the suicide of her mother and an evidential mediumship reading, Dr. Beischel forfeited a potentially lucrative career in the pharmaceutical industry to pursue rigorous scientific research with mediums full-time. Her research includes examinations of the accuracy and specificity of the information mediums report as well as their experiences, psychology, and physiology and the potential social applications of mediumship readings. Her main focus at this time is the impact that mediumship readings have on the bereaved. Dr. Beischel serves on the scientific advisory boards of the Rhine Research Center and the Forever Family Foundation and she is Adjunct Faculty in the School of Psychology and Interdisciplinary Inquiry at Saybrook University. Dr. Beischel is the author of Among Mediums: A Scientist’s Quest for Answers. For more information, please visit www.windbridge.org or www.afterlifescience.com
